Reggae singer-songwriter Hopeton Lindo is enjoying success with his latest single ‘Your Best Friend’.
Currently No. 1 on the Foundation Network reggae chart in Florida and No. 11 on the New York reggae charts, the song is getting heavy rotation and could be another hit for the Florida-based artiste.
In 2015, Lindo topped charts in the diaspora with his track Love You All Over Again, and just last year, the singer was back topping charts with his version of the Chi-lites’ Homely Girl.
“The market for reggae music is good and it continues to grow in Florida. There are a lot of reggae acts here. Some don’t have any Jamaican roots, but they love the music and are pursuing it. They get a good response from the market but Jamaicans, because of our roots, usually get a better response,” he said.
With the song getting rave responses in the Florida market, Lindo says the song is poised to ‘blow up’ next on Jamaica. He revealed that a few radio stations locally are playing the track and he’s happy it’s gaining traction.
“Every artiste, particularly the ones based overseas, wants to know that their song is doing well at home,” he said. “I don’t limit my thing. I do music for the world so I like to see it do well everywhere, not just in Florida where I’m based. I’m known in Jamaica because I’m involved in music in Jamaica not just as a singer, but as a writer and producer.”
Lindo is particularly happy about the song’s success because one of the track’s producers, Vaughn ‘Zelly’ Facey, is currently recovering from a health situation and the song’s success has been lifting his spirits.
“After we recorded the song, he had a stroke two weeks after that and he was in a coma for two and a half weeks. He’s out of the coma and improving now and the song has become like a mission. It took teamwork, and I’m glad he’s getting to see the work pay off.”
