Jaguars advance to title game | Sports

Defending champions Granville Jaguars are through to the final of the National Basketball League (NBL) Western Conference after getting the better of arch-rivals Catherine Hall All-Stars 73-62 in the first match of Sunday’s double header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Court.

They were joined by Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights, who dismissed the Holland Saints 89-77 in the second match on the night.

Captain of the Granville Jaguars Dave Black said that he was happy they could get the better of the Catherine Hall All-Stars, who they have been meeting in the finals of the Western Basketball league for the past four years.

“We knew, going into the semi-finals, that Catherine Hall would be a tough challenge because over the years, we always meet each other in the finals,” said Black, recently guided the Herbert Morrison High School to the All-island Under-19 Basketball title.

Black said that they are confident going into this Saturday’s final at the same venue as history is on their side.

“For the past couple of years, anytime we play Knights in any knockout competition, we always get the better of them because they have a very young team. However, I think it’s still going to be a tough game. We will have to come out, play our game both offensively and defensively, and we will get the victory,” said Black.

He said that the inclusion of three of his standouts from Herbert Morrison’s team has brought much more balance to the Jaguars.
