Student on voice note to be assessed | News

The teen at the centre of a controversial voice note, claiming he will be the next school shooter, will be given a psychological assessment.

A release from the education ministry yesterday afternoon said the ministry will assist the police in doing the assessment.

The 17-year-old Wolmer’s Boys School student was taken into custody for questioning yesterday, as it relates to alleged threats of violence and murder against fellow students in an audio clip that went viral on the weekend.

THE STAR understands that he was nabbed on arrival at the Heroes Circle-based institution yesterday.

Detectives from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime (CTOC), led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, questioned the student along with his parents in the wake of a threatening voice note he reportedly sent to a teacher. Other students are being questioned in this regard.

The circulation of the audio clip on social media reportedly sparked panic among some parents who rushed to the school to pick up their children.

According to the release, a follow-up meeting has been scheduled for today.

Last Wednesday, an expelled student shot and killed at least 17 persons in Parkland, Florida.

Local police are urging individuals to desist from circulating the audio clip saying it may cause undue anxiety.
