Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that he will not be drawn on speculation regarding star player Alexis Sanchez’ future at the club, adding that instead, he is focused on the short term while the player is still under contract.
The player will be free to sign a pre-contract with any foreign club, if he chooses, when the transfer window reopens on Monday but Wenger admits he is not sure what may happen when that time comes.
“First of all nobody knows what will happen and it’s always difficult to speculate,” Wenger said. “At the moment we are focused on the short term, the short term is win the next game with the players who are committed and ready to fight.
“It’s not a guarantee how long you will stay somewhere – as long you are somewhere you give your best.”
Wenger also responded to the rumours fuelling speculation that Sanchez could sign for French side Paris Saint Germain, after reports that the Chilean was spotted in the French capital earlier this week.
“That’s true,” Wenger said when asked if the player had visited the French capital.
“We had two days off on the 24th and 25th that was public, but he did not go to Chile. He met his family somewhere but not in Chile.”
